LabXchange, a Harvard University initiative, is a learning platform seeking to inspire the next generation of scientists. Influenced by the rise of social media and modern instructional design theories, the LabXchange project wanted to bring educators, students and researchers together to collaborate as part of a global learning community. The intention was to enable users to take control of their learning and solve real-world problems together.
The goal of this project was clear at the outset, but the right approach and tools to use to achieve this goal were less so. A close collaborative relationship and a shared passion for the potential impact of this project made it possible for the teams to meet ambitious timelines.
LabXchange worked extensively with Hubble Studios in developing the UI/UX design of the platform and building cutting-edge educational content such as virtual laboratory simulations and interactive motion graphics – all with strict accessibility standards in mind.
Once completed, educators and students were able to browse a comprehensive library of curated and original content, collaborate with each other, and take complete control of their learning journey.
Varied educational materials on biology and biotechnology are now available on LabXchange, allowing educators to develop and create custom learning pathways that better serve the needs of students at different levels.
LabXchange was launched in February of 2020 to significant press coverage and an eager response from the science community.
“The Hubble Studios team created the most beautiful and pedagogically engaging content! We are very happy with the results and impressed with their ability to work with complex subject matter and adapt as our needs changed.”
