the challenge

GROW Educare Centres is a non-profit organisation providing Early Childhood Development (ECD) training and resourcing in low-income areas across South Africa, of Cape Town, Durban and Johannesburg. GROW is the largest chain of 5-star ECD Centres in South Africa, serving developing communities. Each centre looks after up to 80 children aged 2–5.

GROW’s collaboration with Hubble Studios began after they identified a need for a Learning Management System to help bring ECD best practice into low-income classrooms in a practical and scalable way. GROW also needed to compile a proposal based on the exact costs of the programme to apply for funding from Grand Challenges Canada Saving Brains programme.

the Hubble Studios intervention

Hubble Studios partnered with GROW to create a digital training programme with the dual purpose of empowering women who run Educare centres and delivering quality education to young children at a critical age.

Hubble Studios first consulted with GROW to analyse their current system and programme requirements, and then designed a digital solution in line with the GROW’s goals. This included mock-up designs for the LMS as well as project costing. The consultation with Hubble Studios was crucial for the client as it meant they could submit a detailed application for funding, which was ultimately successful in securing the grant from Grand Challenges Canada Saving Brains.
