According to the Oxford Dictionary accessibility is the quality of being
- able to be reached or entered
- easy to obtain and use
- easily understood or appreciated.
When we design online learning experiences, we need to ensure digital or web accessibility. This means that we need to make our online content usable, reachable, and understandable for as many people as possible.
In this workshop, we will unpack the terms accessibility, usability, and inclusive design, as they are all very closely related. Their goals, approaches, and guidelines overlap significantly so we will address them together.
Accessibility is an outcome of inclusive design – it’s a good starting point to understand how to build experiences that are accessible for all, specifically for those with limiting abilities.
The focus of this workshop is to share our learnings about accessible design but also to hear from you, our audience. Together, we can form a community of knowledge to share information on a topic that will grow and change rapidly and constantly.
